Dr. Parul, what is your perspective on the current pace of technology adoption within medical coding operations?
Dr. Parul
Honestly, I’m really excited about how fast technology is evolving in medical coding right now.
We are seeing a real change with computer-assisted coding, AI, and natural language processing. These aren’t just buzzwords anymore. They’re generally improving speed, accuracy, and even compliance. And what amazing is how these tools are taking some of the pressure off coders.
They’re helping us move away from the repetitive manual work and focus more on the complex value-driven task. It’s not just about working harder anymore. It’s about working smarter and that’s big shift.
But the reality is that not everyone is moving at the same pace. On one hand, there are larger systems which are moving ahead, but the smaller practices are still struggling, which could be due to cost, resources, or simply the fear of changing the familiar processes.
For me, the most important part is that we don’t forget the human side of this transformation. It’s not just about rolling out any fancy technology. It’s about bringing coders, clinicians, and billing teams along for the ride, giving them the training and support they need, and making sure the technology actually solves their day-to-day challenges.
So yes, as we move forward, it’s not just about adopting technology, it’s about making sure it works for the people behind the screens, empowering the coders to do their best work and helping healthcare thrive.
